Increase Feature Engagement

Noon Academy
,
Background:

Noon Academy is on a mission to change the way young people learn by creating a rich, social learning experience. To make learning hyper social they launched a new feature which was peer-based study groups, but they didn’t have a reliable way to see if learners were benefiting from this kind of interaction.

They needed an easy and efficient way to receive learner feedback, and target certain groups of students during specific interactions in order to uncover the obstacles to student participation and social interaction within the study groups. They built an insights strategy based on delivering website and in-product surveys to learners as they were experiencing these features. Before they invested more resources in developing more peer-to-peer features they needed to know if students were using it? If not, why not? And how could these groups be more effective?

1. Find out why website visitors didn’t convert

1. Find out why website visitors didn’t convert

Insights Gathered: Before Noon started asking questions about the specific peer to peer features, they looked at their overall website traffic to make sure they were investing in features their users actually wanted. They targeted their questions at a 9-12th graders in Pakistan when they were using the website. This level of targeting was made possible due to their data management and the events and attributes targeting available through Sprig.

Actions: While the team saw that the students were there to join live classes in a peer to peer environment, they expected to see more engagement in a group learning features. Because this is where they were investing their resources they dug deeper.

2. Validate your differentiators

2. Validate your differentiators

Insights Gathered: Were students satisfied with the student-led class experience? This question was critical to Noon Academy’s mission. If students weren’t participating in these groups, they weren’t getting the benefit from Noon that differentiates it from other e-learning platforms.

Because this research was conducted in-app, the Noon Academy team received quick feedback. The students were taking these surveys in real-time, and the team was analyzing them almost instantaneously.

Two themes emerged: there were some bugs and students needed guidance within the study group experience.

Actions: Bugs were easy. The team worked with Engineering to get those solved and then the design team got work on solutions that would provide more direction to students as they attempted to engage with the peer-based groups.
