Introducing Sprig: Your All-In-One Product Research Platform

August 25, 2021

I founded UserLeap over two years ago because available user research tools were failing modern product teams.

So our team set out to develop a product that would provide the depth of a qualitative research tool, but at the scale of an analytics platform. One that would enable product teams to make critical decisions based on customer insights instead of assumptions, while still operating at the speed of modern product development.

Today, we’re excited to announce our expansion into an all-in-one product research platform and our name change from UserLeap to Sprig.

The UserLeap name has carried us to where we are today. Our hyper-relevant microsurvey platform has tracked 1.5B+ visitors, processed 25B+ events, and captured 4M+ microsurvey responses for more than 500 companies, including Dropbox, Square, Loom, and Opendoor.

Now with Sprig, we’re expanding our platform to deliver on all three key pillars of product research—video interviews, concept testing, and microsurveys—so you don’t need to juggle multiple research platforms, and you can view all your insights in a single place.

To do this, we’re launching two completely new solutions, enabling product teams to conduct user interviews and share design concepts with their actual customers, all asynchronously while leveraging our event-based targeting infrastructure.

Modern product teams move fast, but learning from customers takes a ton of time, energy, and effort

Let’s face it: the process of conducting qualitative user research is labor intensive and time consuming. Most product managers and designers don’t interview users or share concepts with customers as much as they would like. And at larger companies with in-house research teams, researchers are often rushed through projects to meet aggressive deadlines, or the product teams forgo research from the research team because there’s not enough time for it.

The process of pulling lists, finding participants, and dealing with no-shows is time consuming and frustrating. And once in front of customers, it can be challenging to know what to ask, and ensure that insights gained guide product decisions, rather than create confusion or fuel indecision. When you’re finally ready for answers, you’re instead left with lengthy transcripts to sort through, recordings to rewatch, and notes scribbled on paper or in a spreadsheet.

In all of my previous product management jobs, and even here at Sprig, I’ve experienced these pains and challenges. In the absence of our video interview and concept testing products, we had to spend hours conducting individual interviews and concept tests, and manually analyzing the results.

In our everyday lives, we communicate asynchronously to save time, be more efficient, and fit conversations into existing workflows. And it’s time for our user research to operate the same way. With the creation of these new solutions, Sprig is consolidating your entire research stack, and bringing it into the modern era. We’re arming everyone on the product team with the tools and expertise they need to conduct research quickly and easily, and with their actual customers instead of hypothetical ones.

Sprig will enable every product decision to be customer-informed, in real time

Our change from UserLeap to Sprig captures our fresh perspective on research as we continue to reshape the ways product teams connect and learn from their customers in real time. By taking a new approach to research, Sprig lets teams integrate bite-sized questions into their product or existing user journeys, enabling product teams to ask questions when it’s convenient and relevant for their customers.

Introducing asynchronous Video Interviews and Concept Testing

Video interviews make it possible to record voice and video questions and deliver them to users asynchronously. So product teams can conduct user interviews 24/7, without any of the hassles of scheduling and recruiting participants for live sessions.

Instead of completing only a handful of interviews for a given project, product teams can now ask a series of questions to hundreds of users. Each video interview is recorded and transcribed, and run through Sprig’s AI engine, which groups common themes together, so product managers and user researchers don’t need to spend hours analyzing results.

Concept tests give teams the ability to embed a Figma prototype into Sprig and receive instant feedback. Product teams can bring their actual users into the product design process early and often, without needing to rely on panels or live Zoom testing sessions.

In the same interface that you send microsurveys and conduct video interviews, simply add a figma URL, specify your voice, video, or text questions to appear alongside it, and send to your users.

The same features you know and love: Contextual targeting, AI text analysis, and expertly designed research templates

Asynchronous video interviews and concept tests are new, innovative forms of research. But they are even more powerful with Sprig’s event-based targeting system, unsupervised AI, and research templates.

Contextual Targeting

Regardless of whether you are sending a microsurvey, concept test, or video interview, you can use Sprig’s sophisticated targeting system to send questions to users based on specific attributes (eg., plan type = free) or actions they take (eg., has not completed a deposit in the last 2 weeks) within your product. And the more research questions you deliver in-product, the higher response rates you’ll see, with average microsurvey response rates ranging from 30-40%, and some companies seeing response rates as high as 90%.

AI Text Analysis

Every response received through Sprig is processed by our proprietary AI models that are trained by expert user researchers and continuously get smarter over time. It’s like having a dedicated user researcher coding each response and painstakingly grouping responses with common themes, even if users use very different words to describe the same issue.

No matter if you’re running a video interview, concept test, or text microsurvey, all responses will be summarized into an organized to-do list, and Sprig will flag insights for you to monitor or take action on.

75+ Expertly Designed Research Templates

Our customers continue to value our expertly created microsurvey templates that make it easy to get started with research. With the launch of Sprig, we’re expanding our curated template library to cover new customer discovery and concept testing use cases.

Need to run a jobs-to-be-done interview? Want to make sure you’re going to get helpful insights during a concept test? Our library will soon have templates to help anyone on a product team, even those without expertise in user research, ask the right questions to their customers at the right time.
