A Better Battery:

Americans use two billion disposable batteries a year, 75% of which contains mercury, a toxic substance that can leak from landfills into soil and groundwater. For an eco-friendly alternative, buy rechargeable batteries.

Armor-Lux Breton Shirt

Why It's Good:

You can effortlessly incorporate the nautical trend with one of these summer-perfect pieces—or go overboard (sorry) with all three.

Why It's Green:

The Armor-Lux shirt is made from 100% fair trade cotton, which means that producers in Africa are paid a fair wage. Kelly B sailor pants are made from linen and organic, pesticide-free cotton, and Lolas Lolos Lolitos sandals are hand-crafted by artisans in Spain so there are no emissions from machinery in the process.

Where To Get It:

Shipshape Chic

I admit it: I'm preppy. I love my pearls. I'll take my togs monogrammed and I love a good whale motif as much as the next Tom, Biff, and Muffy. So it probably doesn't come as a surprise that I'm fond of nautically-inspired fashion. (What else would one wear sailing to Nantucket? Or pedaling to the farmers' market?) It was with great joy that I watched this "trend" appear on the spring runways. The Armor-Lux striped cotton shirt is the perfect start. Classic and comfortable, it will look great paired with Kelly B wide-leg organic cotton and linen sailor pants, $170, which have a flattering cut and feature anchor buttons on the front panel. Then slip on a pair of Lolas Lolos Lolitos navy-striped thong sandals, $90—the comfortable footbed and hand-stitched details make you feel like they were made just for you. If you don't want to scream preppy from head to toe (not that there's anything wrong with that), you can easily incorporate just one of these pieces into your wardrobe.
