Legalizing Hemp (Fabric):

The hemp plants used for fabric and marijuana are two totally different species, making the US prohibition against growing hemp for textiles nonsensical. A hardy plant that produces a fiber stronger than silk, hemp needs little to no chemicals for cultivation. And the first American flag was made out of it.

LaLicious Body Butter, Scrubs and Oils

Why It's Good:

If you're craving the beach, but can't make the trip, indulge in the tropical scents of a LaLicious body butter, scrub or oil instead. The products are packed with super moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil and vitamin E that'll leave your skin silky smooth. Several celebrities are fans of LaLicious too including Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Halle Berry and Nicole Richie.

Why It's Green:

The entire LaLicious collection is all-natural and free of parabens and sulfates. In fact, the line began when owner Jessica Kernochan mixed up one-of-a-kind body scrubs and lotions in her kitchen to give as Christmas gifts. So if you read the ingredient list of one of her sugar scrubs you'll recognize every single thing that's in your jar from honey to 100% Arabica coffee grounds.

Where To Get It:

Tropical Body Treats

I'm a beach bum at heart, but I'm living the New York City life. Since I can't get to the Caribbean (or even the Hamptons) often enough I'm always drawn to beauty products that are reminiscent of the beach. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to stock my shower with products scented like Island Guava, Coconut Cream and Passionfruit Lime. Many of the ingredients come straight from the islands, too, like coconut oil and aloe leaf extra. All of the body oils and scrubs contain Vitamin E oil to soothe your skin and almond oil, which is packed with vitamins and minerals and can relieve itching, dryness, inflammation and burns. The entire collection is super moisturizing and made my skin feel baby soft all day long. And as a beauty writer, I've tried my fair share of scrubs—usually I'm not a big fan because they can be too abrasive. However, all of the LaLicious scrubs use pure sugar cane which feels much more gentle than alternatives like salt or walnut shells. The best part is that once I do get to spend a day at the shore, my skin will be beautifully exfoliated and moisturized!—Julie Knapp
