A Better Battery:

Americans use two billion disposable batteries a year, 75% of which contains mercury, a toxic substance that can leak from landfills into soil and groundwater. For an eco-friendly alternative, buy rechargeable batteries.

Korres Natural Products Lip Butter

Why It's Good:

Korres, a Greek skincare company with its roots in Athens' oldest homeopathic pharmacy, recently branched out into makeup with their Color Collection. The line's Lip Butters incorporate years of skincare savvy into a formula that's as nourishing and moisture-rich as the brand's body butters.

Why It's Green:

The Color Collection (like all Korres products) is free of things like mineral oil and propylene glycol and is instead loaded with all-natural, good-for-your-skin plant extracts and botanical ingredients. Plus, the PET plastic packaging is recyclable.

Gorgeous Gloss That Cares for Your Lips

I'm a lipgloss-aholic. My addiction is so severe that there is an entire drawer in my desk that stores nothing except an assortment of candy-colored tubes. I have absolutely no loyalty to brand or shade, I just slap whatever is within reach onto my lips and repeat throughout the day. Each winter, though, I'm forced to abandon my obsession in order to keep my kisser from becoming dry and chapped; it just can't handle the moisture-sapping ingredients found in most glosses. This year, I can still get the color I crave while caring for my lips, thanks to Korres Lip Butters. Dabbing on one of these balms feels more like I'm coating my mouth with a rich cream than a lipstick. And the product melts right into my lips, leaving them buttery soft for hours. It must be the shea butter and rice wax that provide this surge of moisture. The best part: All four sheer shades are so flattering and natural that I don't even have to apply them in front of a mirror to know they look great. They may be just what I need to kick start my 12-step, lip-gloss detox program.—Megan O'Neill
